Fractured Morality & Erosion of Truth: Weaponized Relativism
Ever feel like what’s right and wrong have switched places? Like you don’t know what’s true and what’s false anymore? Or that the idea of “truth” itself is becoming irrelevant? Well, I do – so you’re not alone in this one. And that sour-tasting feeling you get? It isn’t just random either.
Certain groups have been deliberately pushing the “everything’s relative” perspective to mess with what we all used to know and agree on as good, true, and moral.
Relativism has been used for years to break down the foundation of our society. We’ve been fed this narrative that there are many different “truths,” that facts are just points of view, and that anyone can hide behind their opinion – no matter what it is.
Yet the truth is singular. It can be multilayered and complex, but it’s still one and only. It’s based on facts – and it’s real. So why does it matter that you see through these narratives?
What is Relativism
Relativism is the idea that truth, factual knowledge, and morality aren’t absolute or universal – instead they are relative to a particular perspective or context.
Basically, relativism says ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, ‘true’ and ‘false’ aren’t written in stone. They’re just opinions shaped by factors like your culture, your society, what you personally believe, or the historical period you live in. What’s okay or true for one group or in one era might be the opposite for another. There aren’t any absolutes that everyone everywhere has to agree on since it all just a viewpoint.
In the end you’re basically left with a collusion: nothing is real, everything is relative.
How it’s Been Miss-used
At first glance, this might seem like a sound concept. I mean, there are indeed various cultures, society did look quite different in past eras, and we all can have distinct personal beliefs… But there’s a huge BUT in this viewpoint:
Truth is truth, and facts are facts – no matter what your beliefs or desires are. Relativism can’t be applied to everything.
The Earth is not flat, no matter how much you wish it was. Just like you can’t breath under water, no matter how hard you want to. As a man by the name Ben Shapiro likes to say: Facts Don’t Care about Your Feelings.
When opinions on serious matters are not based on facts and used to achieve malicious goals – it’s a huge problem.

The same thing happens when relativism is used to undermine morality. While our views on what’s moral have changed throughout history, we eventually developed a pretty stable moral system over the last hundred years or so. We established a set of principles and criteria that define what’s considered moral and what’s deemed immoral, and it became an integral part of modern Western civilization. It’s a core element of a world everyone was happy to be part of, or at least really wanted to be, if given a free choice.
This set of moral principles was tested. It went through trials and errors, but it was accepted on a global scale in the 20th century. And the world thrived under this widely accepted moral framework – up until recently.
Today, the lines between right and wrong, good and evil, are getting increasingly blurry and murky. All because our values are constantly being bombarded by the bombs of relativism.
The Harmful Impact of Relativism
You might not even see what “relativism” has to do with all the shitty things that have happened in the last decade or two. That’s because the harmful impact of relativism often isn’t that obvious. For example, what do fake news have to do with relativism? Or how does the world order depend on it?
The reality is – a lot of these truly worrisome, destructive and exploitative issues share the same roots. You see, when there’s no common set of beliefs, no shared views on basic things like wright and wrong, it becomes easy to squeezes in “alternative truths”.
How does that happen? By repeatedly pushing revisionist takes and ideas on things that have already been objectively proven and accepted, and then hiding those takes behind the excuse of just having an alternative opinion. Slowly but surely, as these narratives get repeated, reposted, retweeted, and reiterated, they become part of a new norm. They slowly infiltrate the realm of possibility.

As soon as the cringe ideas start to settle into a society, it literally opens the gates for more and more fake news, misinterpretations, blatant lies, and rationalizations of evil acts.
You can see it clearly today in examples of moral relativism, science relativism, ethical relativism, political relativism, and so on. It’s like you can’t be sure about anything anymore, because there’s always some weird, often absurd justification for everything – no matter how unjust, immoral, or perverse it is.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s perfectly fine to have an opinion and your own point of view. It’s perfectly fine to discuss and even argue about things. But the purpose of those arguments should be to reach the ultimate truth, the best outcome possible – not to fit into a self-serving narrative that benefits only the most powerful and power-hungry minority.
Morality Under Siege
Morality is one of the key targets of deliberate relativist misuse. The very principles that should serve as our default compass in life are under siege today.
Like, you always thought taking an innocent life was wrong? Well, apparently it isn’t. Because suddenly, you’ll start hearing dozens of crazy justifications for killing innocent people – whether it’s for the so-called greater good of the nation (as if certain nations are above everyone else), or in the name of vague higher ideals (even though they’re bogus and purely populist).
Or maybe you thought stealing was bad. Again, apparently it’s perfectly justified – if it’s done by a certain category of people. And what about breaking the law? After all, laws are, in large part, a direct reflection of moral norms. Yet again, it’s somehow fin – as long as those crimes benefit certain groups.

This has been done by both the left and the right to varying degrees. Both political parties in the U.S. have used relativism to their advantage. You have to call it like it is! Neither side is above doing it.
Unfortunately, the results are pretty damn tragic. Morality is in shambles. The ideals we used to cherish and strive to live by – acts of compassion, standing against oppression, upholding justice, protecting the vulnerable, fighting corruption – are becoming shallow words. They’re losing their meaning and essence.
Basic universal moral principles that used to unite societies are constantly under attack. Things aren’t looking good right no, it honestly seems like it’s getting worse every year. Do you think it’s a coincidence that tensions have been rising globally over the past decade? The war in Ukraine attacked by Russia, the conflicts in the Middle East, Israel – Hamas war, political and economic alliances breaking down, the sudden rise of social movements that divide people into mutually hating camps… The list goes on.
And it all starts with our basic moral foundation being undermined and replaced by “alternative” concepts.
Erosion of Truth
So how does one attack morality? Sure, relativism is the chosen approach. But what are the exact tools and methods used?
Well, there are plenty. But the major one is spreading lies – introducing false statements, building a narrative around them, and repeating it long and often enough that it becomes hard to recognize it’s actually a lie, that it’s just a phony house of cards.
Now, there are so many lies, such an enormous flow of falsehoods, misinformation, and purely relativistic takes that you can’t even tell what’s true anymore. Misinformation has become part of our daily life. As soon as you spot one obvious piece of bullshit, you’re hit with another. And then another one. This flood of lies is simply overwhelming – and it’s designed to be that way.
The erosion of truth is happening right now, right before our eyes. And the scary part? Very few so-called public speakers, influencers, and other prominent figures are actually speaking up about it. It seems like many of them are choosing to stay silent.
Exposing a lie used to be a big deal. Sometimes it was risky, sometimes it took courage, and sometimes it was relatively easy. But it was the right thing to do, and people did it. Now, even when someone points out a falsehood, it’s just one at a time. But the real issue is that all these individual lies are part of a much larger system.
Conclusion
This stuff isn’t just some abstract debate for philosophy students. It’s real, and it’s happening all around, and it’s effecting us. When truth gets twisted, when morality gets weakened, when lies become the norm – society starts to rot from the inside out.
You don’t have to be a genius to feel that something’s off. You just have to be honest. I believe that deep down, most of us still know what’s right and wrong, and can tell truth from lies. So do not play along when you know something’s fake. Don’t stay silent when a lie is being pushed as truth.
Truth is the first to fall. After that, everything else will crumble – morality, justice, society itself.
